Vacancy for a Part-Time Level 3 Nursery Practitioner (min of 15 hours) 

 

Highfields School is a small and progressive co-educational, non-selective independent preparatory school and nursery.  We welcome children aged 2-11 years of age.  Situated a short walk from Newark town centre, the school sits within 14 acres of natural parkland, offering a wonderful working and learning environment. We are recruiting for a part time nursery practitioner to work within our thriving nursery setting. Highfields is extremely proud of its dynamic and passionate team that work to provide the highest quality care and learning contexts for children aged 2 and above. 

The successful candidate will have at least a NVQ level 3 in childcare and have previous experience working in a nursery setting. In addition, they will be able to work well as part of a team and use their own initiative to achieve common goals within the setting always putting the needs of children first. The candidate should be of a compassionate nature and have the skills and knowledge to enable children to maximise their full potential, exploring their interests and developing their skills to prepare them fully for formal school life. This position is for an immediate start from 13th April 2026Salary depending on experience. 

 

 

Main responsibilities: 

 

  • To provide a consistently high standard of learning through play, and outstanding care for children from 2 years 
  • To ensure that the nursery is a safe environment for children, staff and others 
  • To developing partnerships with parents/carers and family members to optimise involvement in their child’s development 
  • To be responsible for any tasks delegated by senior nursery or school staff 

 

Other activities and responsibilities of the role: 

  • To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors 
  • To help ensure the nursery meets regulatory and statutory standards at all times 
  • To understand and follow nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies 
  • To plan activities which ensure each child is working towards their individual outcomes. 
  • To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident book, risk assessments 
  • To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement 
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the nursery’s aims and objectives

We have an opportunity for creative and caring part time One-to-One Teaching Assistants to support pupils with ECHPs. The role requires successful candidates to work between 12 and 20 hours a week. For the right candidate there is also opportunity for a full-time role. The roles will be reviewed annually in line with local authority funding. We require the successful candidates to be available to start on 13th April 2026. 

 

The role will involve: 

  • Working closely with the class teacher to support the pupils to access the learning and extracurricular activities at Highfields 
  • Provide an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by personalising learning to meet the needs of the children, and adopting relevant strategies to facilitate learning and next steps 
  • Work in collaboration with the teacher and other colleagues to increase pupils’ achievements; supporting strengths and nurturing challenges that are related to the children’s emotional and ADHD/Autism/Sensory needs 
  • Being able to consistently use effective and positive behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policies and modify provision appropriately to meet the needs of children 
  • Communicating effectively with families, working in partnership to provide an easy transition from home to school life and optimise learning 
  • An expectation of a high level of customer care for both the pupils and their families
