At Key Stage One, all children participate in at least one hour of P.E. lessons per week. Lessons cover fundamental movement skills, dance and gymnastics.
At Key Stage Two pupils enjoy an additional two hours of Games lessons with Rugby, Tag Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Football and Cross-Country Running taking place throughout the Autumn and Spring Terms. Cricket, Rounders and Athletics all feature during the Summer Term. Highfields School plays an active part in inter-school competitions, and teams compete against both Local Authority Primary Schools as well as against other Independent Schools in the ISA Midlands regional area.
Swimming is introduced to pupils in the Summer Term of the Reception year using two pools at the nearby sports and leisure centre. All pupils then swim every week of the School year right through to the end of their time in Form Six.

The School estate has fourteen acres of grounds, and consequently it is possible to provide many outdoor sporting facilities. These include a Rugby pitch, Hockey pitch, Football pitch, two hard-surface Netball courts and an open grass for field Autumn and Spring activities. In the Summer there are two Cricket pitches, three Rounders pitches, a 200 metre running track, 100 metre straight sprint and a Long-Jump pit. An Orienteering Course and Cross-Country Course are permanent fixtures as well as the two-court Indoor Sports Hall, which has been recently refurbished.
