Music plays an important part in the life of the School under the direction of a specialist teacher. All children are given opportunities for singing, performing, composing and percussion work.
In addition, children in the junior forms are able to learn to play the recorder and have keyboard lessons. Peripatetic staff come in to the School to teach string and woodwind instruments. Children are able to play in the School’s orchestra or band and sing in the choir.

All children in the infant department have a class music lesson plus another session in the week concentrating on singing. They have the opportunity to experience a wide range of percussion instruments and listen to a variety of music. The infants take part in various concerts and services: at Christmas they put on a production for the school and parents, in the Spring term they perform many of their favourite songs in their own concert and in the Summer term Form 2 children take part in the local infant music festival together with pupils from several other schools.
In addition to their weekly music lesson all children in forms 3 and 4 have the opportunity to learn to play the recorder. It is the easiest first instrument for children to learn, teaching them to read music. Forms 3 and 4 perform a Christmas play to parents and the School, and also to senior citizens at Christmas. In Form 5 the children have a Tudor day, during which children play music experiencing a range of Tudor instruments, and perform plays to their parents. Form 6 produce a French nativity play, DARE graduation and amongst their activities is the opportunity to use keyboards.
