Welcome to our web site, and thank you for taking the time to get to know a little more about our School.

This School has a deserved reputation within the local and national community for its excellence and the wealth of opportunities available to all pupils.

As a School, we are extremely delighted with outcomes and findings from our last ISI Inspection as it highlights the many strengths that we have as a School and have maintained, and also the many improvements made in recent years. As with any Inspection, there are recommendations for improvement, all of which the School was aware of prior to the Inspection and, indeed, feature in the School’s annual development plans.

There are many positive points within the report but the highlights, from our perspective, are :

·    Independent learning is a strength and is highly developed from Reception.
·    Parents are very positive about teaching, the curriculum, and the levels of pastoral care provided.
·    Pupils enjoy lessons, are interested, motivated and very happy in their learning.
·    Pupils achieve high standards and make good progress for their ability, including those children in the EYFS, where the overall effectiveness of their provision is good.
·    Pupils’ personal development is nurtured through the splendid relationships within the School community and the high quality of care they receive.
·    Pupils feel valued and generally have high self-esteem.
·    Enrichment of the curriculum through visits, extra-curricular visits and visiting speakers is excellent.
·    Effective teaching successfully supports the aims of the School and makes a strong contribution to the pupils’ levels of achievement.
·    Excellent relationships exist between pupils and teachers, and a happy, caring community with a strong family atmosphere successfully enables pupils to learn and develop.

These are just a small selection of the many positive comments made by the Inspection team. Such a positive outcome does not come as a surprise as we already know, as parents, teachers, pupils and governors, that Highfields is an excellent School; it is extremely gratifying, however, to have it acknowledged and lauded within the national domain.

Highfields is justifiably regarded as an excellent preparatory school. However, we do not ‘rest on our laurels’ and have continued to develop the range of opportunities and standards within the classroom, as well as within sports, drama, music and, of late, chess.

We recognise the individual in your child, and we are proud of the many things we do to help your child feel valued and encouraged as an individual. We look forward to welcoming you to Highfields as a visit will enable you to gain a full picture of the unique and caring environment that makes us so special.

With my best wishes

Mr D R Wood,
Headmaster.
